PORT OF NEWCASTLE
Port of Newcastle coal export capacity: 93 Mtpa

Expansions by Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG) and Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) will increase the coal export capacity to 180 Mtpa by 2015

Newcastle Port Corporation
The corporation owns two coal terminals at Newcastle port. They’re both operated by Port Waratah Coal Services, which is operational 24 hours a day:

Koorangang Coal Terminal - completed expansions in 2007, now with a throughput capacity to 77 Mtpa.

Carington Coal Terminal  - throughput capactity of 25 Mtpa

 Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG)

The Group built and operate a third coal export terminal at the Newcastle Port. The current capacity is 30 Mtpa, however construction is underway to increase the throughput capacity to 53 Mtpa.

Peabody Energy Australia owns 17.7% of Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG), in Newcastle, Australia[i].

Coal from Wilpinjong is exported through the Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG) and Port Waratah Coal Services in Newcastle. Coal from Wambo mine is also exported through the Port of Newcastle.

PORT KEMBLA - WOLLONGONG

Port Kembla is located 72 km south of Sydney. The port was established in the 1890’s to export coal from the Illawarra region. It’s owned by the state owned corporation the Port Kemble Port Corporation (website: http://www.kemblaport.com.au/index.pl ).

Coal is exported from the Port Kembla Coal Terminal (website: http://www.pkct.com.au/). Peabody Energy is one of six equal shareholders in the Terminal. The terminal capacity in 2008 was 12.6 Mtpa.

Coal from Metropolitan mine is exported through Port Kembla.
